Steampunk...Say What?

Steampunk has become more mainstream now, but in case you didn't know...

The term “Steampunk” generally signifies going back to or adopting a way of life prevalent in the 1800’s.  The phrase was first coined in the 1980s and describes an alternate reality where the Victorian period coincides with the modern technology era. It is a combining of the best of both worlds—Victorian high design and craftsmanship with modern functionality and usefulness.  While once mainly a sub-genre, Steampunk design has undoubtedly become part of our current culture.

For me, working with vintage clocks, watches, and other mechanical components bled into a discovery of this Steampunk genre and has resulted in the creation of other pieces of art that seamlessly blend the inherent strength of machinery with the femininity of the Victorian Age.
